Gary's place in Campbell River

I haven't set off yet, probably will around Wed 12th next week. Weather not setting up as nicely as it was forecast to do two weeks ago, surprise, surprise, but I still want to finish around or a couple of days after the brightest full moon of 2013, so will go anyway as its not too bad - settled (no strong winds) and slightly mixed (various directions) would sum it up.
I'm at a buddy of mine, Gary Robinson's place in Campbell River. He's been really great - driveway for the camper, garage for the boat, power, internet, water tap (fresh drinking water) in the garden, TV, shower, laundry, beer in the fridge, steaks on the barbie, lawn to put my stuff out on ... this is as good as it gets, especially for a Gypsy camper. Gary's already paddled round the island too, so lots of beta and also gear, like some Goldilocks water containers off Ebay for the Epic 18 kayak, as well as a deck bag. Awesome, Gary. Thanks man. And to think I just texted him  a couple of hours before I showed up on Fri, to see if he had time for a beer before I headed up-island. Good man!

  2. Enjoying Jeromes company in Campbell River as he makes his final preparations for his record breaking attempt around the island. This seems to be largely comprised of eating non stop as he carbo-loads and drinking copious amounts of red wine. I had to open some South African reds in his honour last night.

With stellar conditions lining up for Jerome's EPIC Voyage ,Oscar messaged that he should be able to do at least 200 km a day with a following wind . Jerome humbly commented that he has always ridden in Oscars wake, feeling somewhat like an autumnal leaf tumbled dizzily in the slipstream of a freight train.

With Jerome looking lean and handsome (according to the local babes), one can't help wondering if some bikini clad babes might pop up unexpectedly on deserted far flung beaches on the west coast of the island. Nothing wrong with hallucinations of exhaustion, even if he only gets lucky with a rutting male walrus in reality.

He sets off for Port Hardy today to stay with Dazy, Crystal and Tracy before setting out to sea. We wish him following winds, a happy heart and favorable hallucinations.
